My speech on the occasion of inauguration as CHIEF GUEST at intercollege festival at Kautilya Vidyalaya,Mysore

Hi friends
I consider it fortunate to interact with you today on the occasion of Kautilya Intercollege youth festival. On this momentous occasion I hail the power of youth!! The fountain of boundless energy unleashed!!!

It is said “ You are only young once, and if you work it right, once is enough.

“ one thing that is…. Incredibly, inordinately, devastatingly, immortally, calamitously, hearteningly, adorably beautiful….is youth.

You are the future of this country. You have aspirations. Hopes , dreams..to be realized to go on to the top of the world.

It is said your success lies in your dreams. SO go to sleep….DONT ..wake up , live up and work hard ..to realize your dreams, every second. Become obsessed with achieving it and be excited to find the right path quickly.

It is so important to be focused in life. If this is wasted then it is like you have been derailed from the journey of success and achievement oriendted pathways in life.

It is said if you work hard the first 25 years of your life..you can enjoy for the rest of your life. Doing mere signatures. Or else you write big notes.(clerk) So this time is so so precious for you.

Academics..excellence..achievement..cocurricular activities..that should be your motto. If this time is wasted . it is going to derail you forever..for these things lead to regret later… a cool sigh… a lost dream …a disappointment.. I do not think anyone deserves it.

I think all of us are equally intelligent..it may be specific to an area..but remember whatever you do excel..be the best. Be an achiever in life. Once you achieve this platform the world looks so beautiful ….. that you can be a role model for others.
Some people are so confused . It is said “I wish I was given a map of life when I was born, Just wanna be sure where I am headed now...” This is a lack of focus.
Life in the end is a sumtotal of missed and utilized opportunities. So if you miss the bus at the opportune time..you have missed gravely in life….your level later on..or at what stature you would be.
It is said that Waiting is painful. Forgetting is painful. But not knowing which to do is the worse kind of suffering.
Don’t be like this. Have a rough plan for your life and career.
And my emphasis is on you for excelling now..being totally focused..obsessed…avoiding all distractions totally…remember any distraction are your gravest enemies..if you lose your focus and keep on losing it you are doomed for life.

Maybe you are very bright but the brightness fades away quickly ,gets clouded, and dissipates in the wrong company. So a very bright talent goes down the drain. Irreparable damage. Lost for ever. For the right time for it to nurture is so important.

I quote “I was born to be a pessimist. My blood type is B Negative”
Don’t be !!!
It is very important to be positive and be among positive people. Nothing is impossible if you are motivated to achieve. It is a threshold that you have to cross. Once you do…I can say even you do not know your limits. Sometimes you get surprised about your extents.

It is said that “The Life is an invisible curve,Go and face everything.”

You can choose your vocation or become a bureaucrat like me.It is said that “The only thing which saves us from the bureaucracy is its inefficiency.”

Become a fanatic for achieveing. It is said that “A fanatic is one who won't change his mind and won't change the subject.” Such should be your level of commitment for achieving and efforts to excel.

There are two kinds of people, those who do the work and those who take the credit. Try to be in the first group; there is less competition there.work work and work and achieve. Go on top.

Never argue with a person who discourages your dreams.Arguing with a such a person is like wrestling in the mud with a pig. Sooner or later you figure out that nothing happens to you but the pig seems to enjoy it.

It is hard to convince a high-school student that he will encounter a lot of problems more difficult than those of algebra and geometry. So life begins after degree..after your graduation ..real struggle begins..the 2-3 years after you graduate..for interviews.competetions all are going to decide your fate…so the effort that you put in now is going to decide your stature.

Isnt it true…Little children, have headache; big children, have heartache. So no distractions.
Orelse parents may learn this..it is said “The best way to keep children at home is to make the home atmosphere pleasant, and let the air out of the tyres.”

Some tortures are physical...And some are mental,..But the one that is both..Is dental.

Never tell your problems to anyone...20% don't care and the other 80% are glad you have them.
Treat your password like your toothbrush. Don't let anybody else use it, and get a new one every six months.
A race horse that consistently..runs just 1 second faster..than others is worth millions of dollars more......
Don’t compromise on 2nd position in life.
The moment you flip a coin, you know what your
decision is. not because of the side it landed, but because in the few
seconds the coin was in the air, you knew what you wanted.

Go and grab the world..it is waiting for you with baited breath.

MY SPEECH ON THE 64TH INDEPENDANCE DAY, 15 AUGUST, 2010 AT MYSORE

My dear fellow country men
Happy birthday to independent India
Happy birthday to 64th Independence day

"We have come a long way towards the time we gained Independence.India's current economic growth (as the world's second-fastest growing major economy) has improved its standing on the world's political stage, even though it is still a developing country, but one that is showing strong development. Many nations are moving to forge better relationships with India".

that by 2030, India will overtake Japan in absolute dollar terms, not PPP, and in the second half of this century will be the largest economy. The really long-term miracle in India will come about because of demographics. China's one-child policy will ultimately result in a reduced, and ageing, workforce."

The economy of India is currently the world's fourth largest in terms of real GDP (PPP) after the USA, the People's Republic of China and Japan, and the second fastest growing major economy in the world, averaging at an annual growth rate of above 8%

The time belongs to economic superpowers. After 2025 only economic powers will rule the world. There would be not much relevance of nuclear super powers.
India should be one of the great economic superpowers then by 2025.

We all should be proud of being part of the income tax department . Because we gave 4 lac crores to the country last year. In coming years we will collect more revenue for the countrys exchequer and, more money with country's treasury means more social spending. We are part of a history being made, year after year.

When India actually becomes an economic superpower which it is already on the way to, it is also because , we have a strong contribution towards strengthening it.So we have a lion hearted contribution to the success fo India. As we are aware administration, police and revenue are 3 pillars of democracy. Since we are part of the Revenue , WE should be proud of being part of this historic department.

The land of Mysore has produced so many great patriots.

Can someone tell me who was Sultan Fateh Ali Khan Shahab . he was none other than the famous Tipu Saheb orTipu Sultan. He defeated the Marathas and the Nizams and was also one of the few Indian rulers to have defeated British armies. He is said to have started a coinage system, banking system, a new calendar, and a new system of weights and measures. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the former President of India, in his Tipu Sultan Shaheed Memorial Lecture in Bangalore (30 November 1991), called Tipu Sultan the innovator of the world's first war rocket. Two of these rockets, captured by the British at Srirangapatna, are displayed in the Royal Artillery Museum in London.

This land of Karnataka had a great role to play in the freedom struggle of India.

This is a list of prominent leaders from Karnataka who assumed leadership roles during India's epic freedom struggle against the British.

It is important to remember that at the time of India's freedom (in 1947) there was no Karnataka as we know today. Instead, it was scattered in twenty different administrative blocks, kingdoms and administrations. Many historians have felt that in fighting for India, the people of Karnataka were fighting for Karnataka itself.

Sadashiva Rao's house was a hub of India's freedom fighter. Sadashiva Rao's house was a hub of India's freedom fight. It served as a guesthouse for national leaders like C.R. Das, Sarojini Naidu

An affluent neighborhood in the city of Bangalore is known as Sadashivanagar today. Very few people know that it is named after Karnad Sadashiva Rao, a glorious son of Karnataka who died penniless (catching a cold, and without warm clothing) in the cause of India

Another great son of the soil who participated in the Indian freedom struggle is Dr. N R Hardikar was born at Dharwar, May 1899. His father was a man of meager fortune. While he was preparing for the Ph.D in politics he met Lala Lajpat Rai. Their eventful meeting was a red-letter day in the history of Indian
Independence. Lalaji asked Hardikar to assist him in propaganda work. Hardikar gave up his studies and helped him in founding the Indian Home Rule League

K G Gokhale participated in the Non-cooperation movement and sentenced to one year's imprisonment. In the Civil Disobedience Movement in Karnataka is a magnificent and just tribute to his organizing faculties. He was the first man in Karnatak to lead a batch of volunteers to Ankola from the Belgaum for Salt Satyagraha.

How can we forget the Mahatma today.

It was 1907. Gandhi described his movement as “passive resistance” ,as against ‘armed resistance’ .At the end of 1907, he
announced a prize for a new name that would convey the
character of the struggle he had launched.
His nephew ,Maganlal won the prize of two pounds with his name:
“Sadagraha” which was modified by Gandhi himself to
“Satyagraha” meaning “truth-force’ or ‘soul-force.’

Another incident of his life I would like to mention here. While boarding a moving train one day, one of Mohandas Gandhi's shoes slipped off and fell upon the track. As he was unable to retrieve it, Gandhi - to the astonishment of his fellow travelers - calmly removed his other shoe and threw it down the track to where the first had landed. "The poor man who finds the shoe lying on the track," Gandhi explained, "will now have a pair he can use."

I would like to mention here few Gandhiji quotes

The human voice can never reach the distance that is covered by the still small voice of the conscience.

I will give you a talisman—whenever you are in doubt recall
the face of the poorest and the weakest man, and ask
yourself if the step you contemplate is going to be any use
to him.

Man becomes great exactly in the degree in which he works for the welfare of his fellowmen.

On this day we should feel proud to be an Indian.

Who is the creator of Pentium chip (needs no introduction as 90% of the today's computers run on it)?
Vinod Dahm

Can you believe it that India never invaded any country in her last 100000 years of history.

When many cultures in the world were only nomadic forest dwellers over 5000 years ago, Indians established Harappan culture in Sindhu Valley

India is the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend and the great grand mother of tradition.

Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism, the four religions that are originated from India are represented by 25% of world’s population.

Let us be proud of being Indian today.Let us resolve to work for the principles that our freedom fighters envisioned for independent India.

To Inspire

My medicine days have been very inspiring.

It has been sheer hard work. I finished my undergrad (MBBS) from most prestigious AIIMS and then joined initially for post graduation MD in Opthalmology at R P Center, AIIMS for a brief period before I decided to call it quits.

I went for a 24 hour call in Opthalmology , which fell once in month and what a fantastic duty!!!

I was never woken up in night for once except for tonometry in morning.

I was not fascinated by it much though initially I had opted for it out of choice for I was fascinated by those machines out there .

I decided then that I should never regret it in my life in future.I should not regret it later say 10 years hence.

ONE SHOULD NEVER COMPROMISE ON WHAT ONE WANTS TO DO IN LIFE. WHY SHOULD ONE REGRET IT IN FUTURE SAY 10 YEARS HENCE.BUT ONE SHOULD WORK HARD, HAAARD !!!! TO GET WHAT ONE WANTS TO DO IN LIFE.SUCCESS IS SHEER HARD WORK, OFTEN BEING POSSESSED BY IT.My key to success!!!

So I decided to call it quits and resigned from the post grad seat in ophthalmology in R P Center,AIIMS.

Six months later I took up Internal medicine for specialization at AIIMS itself.I love being MD in Internal medicine.

I found it challenging for I love handling crisis in sick patients.

In a patients life , a doctor is a real hero. For he is fighting the disease on behalf of the sufferer.I love being dedicated to my job and it gives me great satisfaction. For I fight for the patient, take clear and quick decisions for management, which pays off many times.

I love the smile on the patients face and the gratitude of the relatives for having put someone back on track to life.

I loved working in the Emergency /AIIMS casualty. For here when a patient walked in I had to diagnose the problem in a very brief time, make up my mind and handle the emergency. It is a “on the toes “ affair perpetually. And I loved doing so.

If I would have ever done superspecialisation . I would have loved to do it in DM in Emergency medicine. Love handling the adrenaline in emergencies.

It is here that I got my clinical judgment for time being short , I had to work fast. For the variety I saw in the hospital, and I had to work hard..it gave me a plethora of experience to handle all kinds of crisis. From poisonings , to heart attacks, to snake bites , to hysterias..to enteric fevers, stab injuries , meningitis..it is a terrific way to handle danger on part of patients and coming out unscathed most of the times. DOCTORS ARE essentially CRISIS MANAGERS.

Quick diagnosis is the key to survival in the hospital in the patient. Bookish knowledge does not help in medicine. It is the bedside clinical judgments. I got it because I spent most of the time with patients in the ward. Taking histories, independently examining them, getting my own clinical findings( later I compared it with the case sheets in the ward and many times I got new clinical findings which I added on to the case sheet). Theory is important as a backup but clinical findings and sense is most important in Medicine. It is more clinical medicine.

I respect all my poor patients for they taught me medicine. If it had not been for them I would have never learnt what is Sydenhams Chorea, or Huntingtons disorder or Multiple Sclerosis or Leukemias.

I was lucky to have worked in the best hospital in the country because we have terrific role models, and focus being on excellence , there is lot of silent learning happening which makes us ahead of any hospital in the country. AIIMS is rated as the third best hospital in the world now.

But of course , in medicine one has to work hard himself to be the best. No spoonfeeding from anyone will help.

REMEMBER IN ANY DISCIPLINE ,IT IS YOUR OWN BATTLE THAT YOU HAVE TO FIGHT ALONE. TO BE THE BEST , YOU HAVE TO BE FIGHTING IT DEDICATEDLY.

I love medicine and cant thank God enough. I still work for charity in medicine now and love treating very poor patients .
