MY SPEECH ON THE 64TH INDEPENDANCE DAY, 15 AUGUST, 2010 AT MYSORE

My dear fellow country men
Happy birthday to independent India
Happy birthday to 64th Independence day

"We have come a long way towards the time we gained Independence.India's current economic growth (as the world's second-fastest growing major economy) has improved its standing on the world's political stage, even though it is still a developing country, but one that is showing strong development. Many nations are moving to forge better relationships with India".

that by 2030, India will overtake Japan in absolute dollar terms, not PPP, and in the second half of this century will be the largest economy. The really long-term miracle in India will come about because of demographics. China's one-child policy will ultimately result in a reduced, and ageing, workforce."

The economy of India is currently the world's fourth largest in terms of real GDP (PPP) after the USA, the People's Republic of China and Japan, and the second fastest growing major economy in the world, averaging at an annual growth rate of above 8%

The time belongs to economic superpowers. After 2025 only economic powers will rule the world. There would be not much relevance of nuclear super powers.
India should be one of the great economic superpowers then by 2025.

We all should be proud of being part of the income tax department . Because we gave 4 lac crores to the country last year. In coming years we will collect more revenue for the countrys exchequer and, more money with country's treasury means more social spending. We are part of a history being made, year after year.

When India actually becomes an economic superpower which it is already on the way to, it is also because , we have a strong contribution towards strengthening it.So we have a lion hearted contribution to the success fo India. As we are aware administration, police and revenue are 3 pillars of democracy. Since we are part of the Revenue , WE should be proud of being part of this historic department.

The land of Mysore has produced so many great patriots.

Can someone tell me who was Sultan Fateh Ali Khan Shahab . he was none other than the famous Tipu Saheb orTipu Sultan. He defeated the Marathas and the Nizams and was also one of the few Indian rulers to have defeated British armies. He is said to have started a coinage system, banking system, a new calendar, and a new system of weights and measures. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the former President of India, in his Tipu Sultan Shaheed Memorial Lecture in Bangalore (30 November 1991), called Tipu Sultan the innovator of the world's first war rocket. Two of these rockets, captured by the British at Srirangapatna, are displayed in the Royal Artillery Museum in London.

This land of Karnataka had a great role to play in the freedom struggle of India.

This is a list of prominent leaders from Karnataka who assumed leadership roles during India's epic freedom struggle against the British.

It is important to remember that at the time of India's freedom (in 1947) there was no Karnataka as we know today. Instead, it was scattered in twenty different administrative blocks, kingdoms and administrations. Many historians have felt that in fighting for India, the people of Karnataka were fighting for Karnataka itself.

Sadashiva Rao's house was a hub of India's freedom fighter. Sadashiva Rao's house was a hub of India's freedom fight. It served as a guesthouse for national leaders like C.R. Das, Sarojini Naidu

An affluent neighborhood in the city of Bangalore is known as Sadashivanagar today. Very few people know that it is named after Karnad Sadashiva Rao, a glorious son of Karnataka who died penniless (catching a cold, and without warm clothing) in the cause of India

Another great son of the soil who participated in the Indian freedom struggle is Dr. N R Hardikar was born at Dharwar, May 1899. His father was a man of meager fortune. While he was preparing for the Ph.D in politics he met Lala Lajpat Rai. Their eventful meeting was a red-letter day in the history of Indian
Independence. Lalaji asked Hardikar to assist him in propaganda work. Hardikar gave up his studies and helped him in founding the Indian Home Rule League

K G Gokhale participated in the Non-cooperation movement and sentenced to one year's imprisonment. In the Civil Disobedience Movement in Karnataka is a magnificent and just tribute to his organizing faculties. He was the first man in Karnatak to lead a batch of volunteers to Ankola from the Belgaum for Salt Satyagraha.

How can we forget the Mahatma today.

It was 1907. Gandhi described his movement as “passive resistance” ,as against ‘armed resistance’ .At the end of 1907, he
announced a prize for a new name that would convey the
character of the struggle he had launched.
His nephew ,Maganlal won the prize of two pounds with his name:
“Sadagraha” which was modified by Gandhi himself to
“Satyagraha” meaning “truth-force’ or ‘soul-force.’

Another incident of his life I would like to mention here. While boarding a moving train one day, one of Mohandas Gandhi's shoes slipped off and fell upon the track. As he was unable to retrieve it, Gandhi - to the astonishment of his fellow travelers - calmly removed his other shoe and threw it down the track to where the first had landed. "The poor man who finds the shoe lying on the track," Gandhi explained, "will now have a pair he can use."

I would like to mention here few Gandhiji quotes

The human voice can never reach the distance that is covered by the still small voice of the conscience.

I will give you a talisman—whenever you are in doubt recall
the face of the poorest and the weakest man, and ask
yourself if the step you contemplate is going to be any use
to him.

Man becomes great exactly in the degree in which he works for the welfare of his fellowmen.

On this day we should feel proud to be an Indian.

Who is the creator of Pentium chip (needs no introduction as 90% of the today's computers run on it)?
Vinod Dahm

Can you believe it that India never invaded any country in her last 100000 years of history.

When many cultures in the world were only nomadic forest dwellers over 5000 years ago, Indians established Harappan culture in Sindhu Valley

India is the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend and the great grand mother of tradition.

Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism, the four religions that are originated from India are represented by 25% of world’s population.

Let us be proud of being Indian today.Let us resolve to work for the principles that our freedom fighters envisioned for independent India.
